Revlon One-Step Hair Dryer And Styler On 4c Hair

Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler on 4c hair

Ever since I started my 4c natural hair journey in 2020, I was excited for the day when I could finally invest in a good blow dryer. Of course, this time I wanted something that would help me keep my hair texture intact, while also straightening my 4c hair nicely.

Last year, I finally decided it was time and started doing my research. For 2 months I looked up all the best blow dryers for 4c hair and talked to anyone I knew that had one.

Of course, the price played a big role. I did not want to splurge on a blow dryer that was expensive, knowing that I would not straighten my natural hair that much. I wanted something that had an affordable price and was designed for thick hair.

And at the end, I decided to buy the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler.

Does the Revlon One-Step work on 4c hair?

Before I get into the main review of the dryer, I figured I would answer a few basic questions. Number 1, yes, the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler works on 4s hair.

I have a tightly coiled, dense, and kinky hair texture, which can be difficult to dry and style at times.

But this hair dryer did do the trick even if I didn’t use a detangling brush to comb my hair before. However, remember that the results will be different depending on your natural hair. Especially, if you have fine hair.

So make sure to be cautious when using the dryer and to test it out on a small section first.

Does the Revlon One-Step damage 4c hair?

Like any other hot hair tool, the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler can damage your hair if you are not careful and do not take the necessary steps to prepare your 4c hair.

I mean split ends and heat damage are common and occur whenever you use hair dryers and styling tools, especially if they don’t feature low-temperature settings or a cool shot button.

To reduce the risk of heat damage, I always use a heat-protectant product and keep the temperature at a moderate level.

In addition, I avoid using blow dryers too often. You should only straighten your 4c hair once a month to two times a month at most. And if you really love having straight hair, then consider wearing a wig or try out alternative ways to straighten your natural hair.

Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler review

Now let’s get into the review. These are all my honest thoughts and comments.

1. Styler vs. Volumizer

The first thing to note is that there are two hair dryers in the Revlon pro collection which are often mixed up. One has a round brush and is called the volumizer and the other one has a comb attachment and is called the styler.

I’m referring to the latter. While I did think about getting the volumizer, I felt that the blow-dryer brush would work better for my short 4c hair and I was right.

2. Paddle brush

The most important feature of the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler is of course the paddle brush. Quite frankly, it is also the main reason why I got it.

I mostly blow dry my natural hair to stretch or gently straighten it before creating a beautiful short 4c hairstyle.

Thanks to the paddle brush that’s made easy now. Instead of holding a traditional blow dryer and a regular hair brush at the same time, I can now simply brush my hair with the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler and get to the end result quicker. It’s like a 2-in-1 function.

3. Detangles and smoothes the hair

Another benefit of the attached blow dry brush is that it detangles and smoothes your hair at the same time. While I prefer to detangle my 4c hair before drying it, the dryer is able to untangle small knots in your hair too.

Moreover, the negative ion technology in the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler helps reduce frizz and therefore keeps your hair smooth and shiny. However, you do want to use a good heat protectant to avoid moisture loss.

4. Drying time

With regard to this point, I’m a little split. While I do feel like the drying process is shorter because you don’t waste time placing hair onto a round brush every time, I don’t think the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler itself is faster than other blow-dry brushes. Especially, if you prefer to use the low heat setting like me.

5. Heat settings

The Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler comes with three straightforward heat settings – cold, low, and hot. I like that. No confusion about Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Whenever I use the dryer after washing my 4c hair I usually start out with the hot setting first while my hair is still wet and then quickly switch over to the low setting as it tends to heat up pretty quickly.

This option was very important because I try to avoid using too much heat on my hair, especially now that I’m focusing on hair growth.

6. Convenience

Next, we have the biggest selling point and that is the convenience of the dryer and styler in one. The Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler has a lightweight design which makes it more practical than other dryers I looked at in Target and Ulta Beauty.

Moreover, it features a swivel cord that spins around when you use it, making it easier to style the back of your head, which we all know can be a struggle.

7. Results

Lastly, let’s talk about the results. I’ve been using the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler on my 4c hair for 3 months now and love it. It’s a great tool considering the price and does exactly what I needed it to do. It dries the hair without leaving any heat damage and stretches it nicely.

In conclusion, the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler is a good dryer. It makes blow drying easy and motivates me to try out more smooth styles. So, it’s a win-win in my book. If you want to get it, I suggest you buy it on Amazon, where I got it a few dollars cheaper than in the store.

However, keep in mind to use the right hair products prior to avoid heat damage.

Revlon one-step hair dryer settings

Can I use my Revlon one-step on dry hair?

No, most blow dryer brushes are primarily designed for use on damp or wet hair. I mean it’s a dryer! So you want to avoid using it on dry hair.

If you want to utilize the paddle brush in order to stretch your hair out, then first mist your hair with a water spray bottle. This will help to revive your hair and create a smooth and defined look.

After that, put the dryer in the cool temperature setting.

Can you use the Revlon one-step hair dryer on short hair?

Yes, the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler can be used on short hair. The brush attachment worked like a detangling brush and latches on even to short kinky hair. So it’s perfect for smoothing and styling short hair.

Of course, if you have a TWA or just very short hair, then most hair dryer brushes won’t work, because the bristles are too long. In that case, you’ll have to wait and use a regular blow dryer.

How to use Revlon’s one-step hair dryer and styler on 4c hair?

Using the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler is super easy and quick unless you have a lot of hair. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to use it on 4c hair:

  • Start with damp hair: Either wash your hair with a shampoo and conditioner or mist it with a spray water bottle.
  • Detangle your hair: Use a wide-tooth comb or detangling brush to comb out big tangles and knots.
  • Apply a heat protectant: Use a heat protectant of your choice to help protect your hair from heat damage.
  • Section your hair: Divide your hair into 4-8 sections, using hair clips or hair ties to secure each section. This will make it easier to work with and style each section separately.
  • Use a low-temperature setting: Start with the lowest temperature setting and gradually increase it if needed. Using a low-temperature setting will help to minimize heat damage.
  • Brush your hair gently: Use the hair dryer and start brushing each section of your hair. Start at the ends of your hair and work your way to the roots. Move the paddle brush slowly and gently to avoid pulling or tugging at your hair.
  • Once your hair is dry and smooth, use a light moisturizing product, such as a leave-in conditioner or mousse to set your hair and reduce frizz.

That’s it, by following these seven simple steps you can achieve a smooth look with the Revlon one-step hair dryer and styler.
